Dogwood Vet has some of the most caring and compassionate people who are very knowledgeable in animals as well as health issues that affect specific breeds. My family and I have used Dogwood for 14 years for my animals and could not be more pleased. The veterinarians know what they are doing and will take any measure needed to ensure the health and comfort of the animals. As an owner of dachshunds it is important to have a vet who knows what illnesses and issues my dogs are prone to and also be able to catch it quickly -- the vets at Dogwood go beyond my expectations in this. I know if I have an emergency, I can call Dogwood and they will assist me. Most recently one of my dogs snacked on a mushroom.
While Doctor Morris was running lab work and assessing what needed to be done to keep my dog healthy, a tech was having me look at pictures of mushrooms to try to figure out what type my dog ate. After an overnight stay and monitoring his lab work every couple weeks for a month, my dog was given a clean bill of health. Dogwood's staff is truly wonderful, even erring on the side of caution to ensure my dog's health. I boarded my two dachshunds for a week when I went on vacation. My dachshunds are rescues who were formerly abused and neglected, so they have some separation anxiety. During their stay, Dogwood kept them together, but did not hesitate to relocate them when they started showing distress. They were moved to a quieter section where they could be watched more closely, and where they could see people. The staff even called me to let me know what was going on and also dealt with my phone calls to check on my dogs.
As a person who fosters, Dogwood's staff is excellent. Not only in checking out any dog I bring in to see them, but also helping me understand the breed if it is not one I have worked with before. I recently pulled a bull terrier out of a kill shelter for a rescue, and as I always do, took the dog to Dogwood for a check-up. This little girl was pitiful, and her ears were covered in sores. The shelter told me she had demodex and of course she had fleas. Doctor Johnson ruled out demodex and diagnosed it as allergies. The dog was put on a different diet and given supplements to help.
Of course, the fleas were dealt with right away and within days the dog stopped scratching. Within two weeks, her ears were healed and she was on the path to recovery and letting her true personality show. The staff will even call or send e-mails to check up on the dogs. The staff at Dogwood are true animal lovers -- this is not just a job for them. You can truly see the love and compassion they have for any animals. They make it a point to know their patients and the families, and let everyone know they care. I love my animals and am glad they have a veterinarian that loves them as well. Dogwood makes it easier being a pet owner, and I fully trust them in the care for my pets. I would not be comfortable nor would I want to use another veterinarian.

My mini dachshund has intervertebral disc disease and had surgery in February 2009. Right after the surgery and since that time she has received several series of K-Laser treatments at Dogwood Vet Hospital and Laser Center. Initially the treatments helped her incision heal faster and the subsequent treatments have significantly helped her mobility and helped her to generally feel better--which is wonderful! I would highly recommend the K-Laser treatments.

My basset hound, Stumpy, has been getting K-Laser treatments for a couple on years now. One morning Stumpy woke up and could hardly walk. Stumpy is a very active basset and enjoyed running and chasing his brother and sister around the yard. Dr. Morris took some x-rays and determined that Stumpy has a disk problem in the middle of his back. We decided to go with the non-invasive treatment of K-Laser. I could see a big improvement after his first treatment. He was 100% better after the first series. Stumpy continues to get treatments about every 6-8 weeks. He enjoys the treatments so much that I no longer have to drag him in to the vets office. I would recommend K-Laser simply because I have seen the improvement in Stumpy.

My dachshund, Max, has had back problems off and on for a few years now. The K-Laser treatments he received at Dogwood really helped him a great deal. He has been doing well this past year and I believe a lot of that has to do with the treatments he received. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

From managing Lucy's healthcare, to giving her a peaceful dignified
death, comforting us when we had to say our final goodbyes to her,
to Punkin's health and Princess’s extraordinary health issues, our
family could not have asked for a better set of doctors and staff to
take care of our four-legged baby girls. I thank you for all you do
and have done for our family. You will truly be missed. We just
pray to find such a caring and highly skilled care for them in
Huntington.
Last January 2010, my 12 year-old doxie had an incident with IVDD (in common terms, blew out a disc in her spine). Dr. Johnson put her on prednisone with a stomach aid and a pain medication, and a muscle relaxer. Once we got her stable, Dr. Johnson suggested we come in for K-Laser Treatments. The K-Laser treatments were to reduce swelling and promote faster and more intense healing. I swear by it. Between crate rest, the meds and the K-Laser treatments, I’m happy to say that Lanie made a full recovery and if she ever has any issues I will use K-Laser again. After each treatment, Lanie came home feeling better. And by the way, this type of treatment was instead of surgery which would have cost several thousand dollars more and been more invasive on such an old dog. Today Lanie is pain free and running around like a puppy. Thanks to everyone at Dogwood. Lynn Matteo
